There will be 2 Honors assignments for this unit. The first will look at the events that led up to the Dust Bowl in the 1930’s Plains States. We will use two video clips to examine this work: Ken Burns’ PBS documentary “The Dust Bowl” and the Science Fiction Movie “Interstellar” directed by Chris Nolan. Here is a companion document to help guide your analysis of the Science Fiction viewpoint versus the PBS documentary (based on the actual event).
The Test for Earthquakes, Faults, and Volcanoes will be Tues 10/22 for A-Day classes and Wed 10/23 for B-Day classes. Flashcards for extra credit are located in a previous post, and are due on Test Day.
HONORS students must turn in their project by their class period Tues or Wed. If you need links, rubrics, or clarification please visit the earlier post where those items are located. My “Teacher Notes” has links that may be helpful. Remember, you should consider the wider area around your location. For example, If you have Los Angeles search for Quakes in California. Search for all quakes or volcanoes in Mexico if you have Mexico City. Don’t focus solely on your city. For example, Search for most recent earthquakes on the Canary Islands-or recent volcanic eruptions in Hawaii. Include only the most recent 10 events or so. If you have a Powerpoint or Google Slides SHARE with me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our Test for Earthquakes, Faults, and Volcanoes will be Tues October 22nd for A-Day classes and Wednesday October 23rd for the B-Day classes. The Honors projects are due on the same day, Honors students should be prepared to talk/present for approximately 3 minutes on the work that they did. I would prefer that the Honors students turn in a paper copy of your Powerpoint or Google Slides, but you can e-mail it to me at email@example.com
Our First Test is planned for (A-Day) Thurs Sept 12 and (B-Day) Friday Sept 13. I will try to stay on track even if we miss a day due to Hurricane Dorian. But if the schedule changes, I will notify you here.
Here are the Test Review Flashcards that you can make for extra credit! Cut notecards in half and write the clue from the left column on one side and the right side on the back of the each card. There are 2 flashcards in each row of the document. You can simply use these to study as well but if you want the Extra Credit you must bring them with you to class on Test Day.
